Dear Members.
Since we last communicated with you, there have been changes to the Society’s committee which are as follows.
Ian Pringle has resigned as Chairman on health grounds but will still take an active part in our meetings and will continue to support the Society with walks and talks. His place as chairman has been taken by Jack Barrett and Jack’s Vice Chairman position is now filled by Dorothy Heaney. Our Secretary is now Amanda Jane Smith, who can be contacted at the above address and phone number. Sheila Helman continues as Treasurer, and Peter Corbally has been elected onto the committee and will, we are sure, prove a great asset.

The first new date for you to note is September 5th when we propose to hold our AGM do please try to come to this, your views and comment are valuable to us. This will take place in the Church Inn at 7.00pm, before a talk by our Chairman, Jack Barrett.
The subject of Jack’s talk will be ‘Prestwich at War’. Jack has been touring local schools in the past few weeks talking to pupils and teachers about this subject, which also forms the next Heritage Museum exhibition in Prestwich Library. The children have produced art works pertaining to this with the help of community artists and it is hoped that an exhibition of these works will be held in the library when it reopens in September.

The next gathering of members will be again at the Church Inn for a talk by Carol O’Reilly who will speak about the de Trafford family. The present Trafford Park is built on the site of the de Trafford mansion.
Her talk will take place on September 19th at the usual time of 7.30.

Don’t forget the visit to Mrs Gaskells house, 84, Plymouth Grove, Manchester, on Sunday 14th October. This joint Friends of Heaton Hall event is a follow up to the talk given by Mrs Elisabeth Williams earlier this year. We are offered afternoon tea, the visit costs £9 per head. £5 for tea and £4 for the visit and slide lecture. We are restricted to 50 members in all. Please contact Elaine Blood at 49, Peveril Close, Whitefield, Manchester. M45 6NS. Please enclose your cheque for £9 made payable to Friends of Heaton Hall, please remember to put in your address. Your cheque will be acknowledged if you send a stamped addressed envelope.
Make your own way to Plymouth Grove.

Further talks at the Church Inn are planned for October, a talk by Tom Gribben about Egypt. Date to be confirmed.

November 21st is booked for a talk by Dr Chris Lee: - The Mancunian Film Company. This should be a most entertaining and informative talk.
